Sergey Karpukhin - photobiography

Karpukhin Sergey Alexandrovich was born on the 26th of September 1962 in Bashkiria. In 1986 he graduated from the Moscow Institute of Geological surveys. Nowadays Sergey lives in Mytischi, Moscow region. Active traveling was started in 1981.
The first decade there were trips mainly connected with speleological investigations. Sergey participated in lots of speleological expeditions to deep vertical caves of the Caucasus, the Crimea, the Primorye and the Alps and at the same time worked in geological expeditions to the Primorye, Kamchatka, the Eastern Sayan Mountains, the Caucasus and the region of Nizhni Novgorod.
During 1991 and 1996 several expeditions with different exploration and tourist’s objectives were held in Altai, Transbaikalia, Yakutia, the Eastern Sayan Mountains, plateau Putorana.
In 1997, 1999 and 2000 a cycle of three unique, fully independent expeditions on his own were realized by the expedition routes of Alexander Lavrentievich Chekanovsky – a famous Russian explorer and pioneer. The route of the expeditions passed the Lower Tunguska, the system of Evenkia’s rivers and the Olenyok river. The total extension of these three expeditions amounts to nearly 5000 kilometers with the total duration of 150 days. During the second expedition the author set a personal record – 40 days without meeting a man and any connection with the outside world.
Sergey has been enthusiastic about photography from the childhood. 1990-th is the time when professional approach to this occupation came, mainly in the landscape genre. Since 1996 the author has been a member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia. In the new millennium the main objective of traveling was determined finally – it is photography. Until now photo expeditions were held in the Pripolyarny and the Polar Urals, Putorany, Altai, the Podkamennaya Tunguska, Yakutia, the Khabarovsk Territory, the Eastern Sayan, Kamchatka and India with Nepal. Some of these expeditions were held alone. Nowadays the author’s activities are combined into a common program “Genuine Planet”, the main concept of which is photogeographical investigation of territories less touched with human activities, mainly, difficult of access, less explored and aesthetically attractive.
