Main / Expeditions / Kamchatka 2007 Kamchatka 2007Kamchatka – the precious dream of any photographer, which field of activity concerns landscapes and nature in general. In summer of 2007 I was lucky to visit this desired land and spend two unforgettable months there. Such landscape and nature diversity is hardly to be found elsewhere. And volcanic activity creates specific, inimitable appearance of this land. But the real picture was far from the initial idea. There were two main surprises.
Firstly, there is no any wild and virgin Kamchatka nowadays. Almost everywhere, no matter how far you have hidden out, there is a possibility to find people. There are few roads and they are often passable only for special types of machinery. But nevertheless there are roads in Kamchatka. I do not take into account the very northern part of Kamchatka which is related to Koryaksky region. It still has little-developed and inaccessible territories.
Secondly, I was astonished by the development of commercial tourism on the peninsula. During summer season almost all local inhabitants, from captains of long voyages to priests, become tourist agents. People from the whole world come here and enjoy different offers of local tourist agents. And the tourist development of Kamchatka is only beginning.
The local inhabitants are frank, friendly and talented. Maybe exactly here all borders between people will disappear and mankind will find again the lost links with nature.
But this beautiful and inimitable land on the one hand is dangerous. Having been here once, you will come back time and again. I’m not sure that it will be realized, but the wish to visit Kamchatka once more is really exist. After all, there are so many things, which I haven’t even touched.
