Polar Urals 1998

A trip for ten days to the Polar Urals. If you can’t stand stuffy and dusty air of Moscow roads in summer, if the overheated asphalt seems to be ready for swallowing you, and the buildings threaten to crush you, if you feel craving for take a sip of natural wind, change the surrounding for even the other planet, don’t waste time. You should only go to the Yaroslavsky railway station and buy a ticket to the train Moscow-Labytnangi. The train starts late in the evening, so the first night in the heated coach will not differ from the others. But the next night you will not see. At that time you will already be in the region where there is light in night. The next day you will cross the polar circle and see the Urals in the long distance. Then you see an obelisk telling that you are already in Asia. I advise you to leave the train on the station Polyarnaya. There is a comfortable ground road to the north, along the Bolshaya Paipudyna valley. Now we are in the Urals, in its northern part, which is called the Polar Urals. It is a part of the mountain range from the beginnings of the Hukga river on its south boundary to the Mount Konstantinov Kamen’ in the north. Summer comes late to this region and leaves it early. That’s why don’t stretch out your presence here. The main part of snow melt in the middle of June, the tops of the mountain ranges are covered by new snow in the beginning of September. So you have only two months: July and August, although it can be snowing even during these months. Plants and animals hurry up to use this short summer: after the very melting of the snow everything is covered by flowers and grass. Here is an example of accessible, but very interesting place.
