Omulyovka 2010

The photo expedition to the river Omulyovka is the continuation of the last season (Kolyma 2009).  Last year I already get acquainted with this river, but only in its upper streams.
This time in a team of four we travelled down this wonderful river on a catamaran. Unfortunately, the expedition passed not as successfully as expected. We spent too much time for getting to the route and getting out of it. Not sufficient time was dedicated to the river itself.
We get to the river by a helicopter from settlement Seimchan to the base Margaritto, where I was last year. This event had been expected for two weeks. The travelling down the river also took two weeks. One more week was spent for getting out to Magadan.
The river Omulyovka takes its beginnings in mountains Okhandja, one of the southern ridges of the mountain range Cherskogo. It goes mainly through the territory of Magadan region and through the territory of Yakutia in its lower streams. Almost as at the beginning of our route the river enters into picturesque mountain massif - Omulyovskoe uplands. Only 50 km it goes through its territories, but this is the most wonderful, unusual and beautiful part on the river. The main masterpiece there is a canyon, which was made by the river from limestone. The canyon is rather narrow in some places and it seems that the sky cans disappear when its walls would close in one.
We spent the main part of the expedition in the canyons of the river Omulyovka. The total length of the route was near 300 km. The travelling down was finished in the place on confluence for the rivers Omulyovka and Yasachnaya. There local inhabitants met us with motorboats and transferred us to the settlement Zyryanka, located in the place of the Yasachnaya entering to the river Kolyma.
You can find more information about the expedition in the story «In the canyons of the river Omulyovka».
